Award-Winning Elegance in Kinloch - David Reid Taupo Showhome - Travertine and Zellige Tile Magic.

Updated: Oct 29

When Scott and Melissa from David Reid Homes Taupō put their names behind a project, you know it’s going to be something special. Add the design magic of in-house consultant Raewyn Mackie, and you have the recipe for a home that doesn’t just impress - it wows.

Nestled in the breathtaking Kinloch valley, this architectural country home in Lochridge Estate proves that tranquil living and high-end design can go hand in hand. Think exposed trusses, skylights flooding the space with natural light, a dreamy scullery, four generous bedrooms, and tiled bathrooms so good they deserve their own Instagram page. And yes, it’s no surprise this beauty walked away with Gold at the 2024 Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

The Design Story

Raewyn’s vision for the bathrooms perfectly balanced sophistication with practicality. The Venture Travertine Ivory Matt tile set the tone in the master ensuite, delivering tasteful elegance, while the Fusion Smeraldo added a soft, jewel-toned pop of colour. In the family bathroom, the same concept was repeated with the gorgeous Fusion Blue.

A clever (and very Taupō) detail worth noting: the showers were designed without glass. Why? The Central Plateau’s high mineral water content tends to leave deposits on glass over time, but tiles? They stay pristine, stunning, and low-maintenance. Proof once again that tiles don’t just look good—they make sense.

The Heart of the Home

Moving into the rustic kitchen, things only get better. The splashback features Zellige White Gloss subway tiles, oozing handcrafted, rustic charm. Flowing into the scullery, the design takes a moodier turn with the earthy comfort of the Contemporary Forest tile, creating a space that feels grounded, tactile, and oh-so inviting.
