Impressive Wood Look Tiles At the Auckland Airport Holiday Inn
It's the busiest airport in the country so finding a hotel where you can feel at home is key. National design company Designworks stepped up to the challenge with the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel project. They successfully created a space with a relaxed and homely vibe that contradict the hard-working materials used to create it.
Porcelain timber look tiles are the perfect choice for this type of environment as they give the best of both worlds. They provide a hard wearing surface that will look as good a new in 50 years, while still offering a relaxed and warm feel to the space.
Designworks chose the Italian wood-look tile called Etic Rovere, to create the look of warm timber flooring through the lobby and bar area of the hotel. Unlike real timber, these porcelain tiles are hard wearing, won’t scratch and won’t fade or go yellow in the sun and they are impervious to water. They are easy to clean and don’t need special cleaning treatments. Also being porcelain, they have an excellent fire rating, making them a practical and safe option.
For the bar front, a bold eye-catching black and white patterned tile called Goroka Grafito was chosen. For both floors and walls, decorative tiles instantly add character to an area. Many Moroccan inspired tiles have a hand-made cement tile look (which is very much on trend at the moment), without having the hassle of using natural materials that need additional treatments and forms of protection.
Porcelain is a good substitute for the traditional Encaustic (cement) tiles as they doesn’t need sealing and are impervious to water, making them ideal for showers and wet areas. Porcelain is also a low-maintenance option because it is easy to clean, often only warm water is required.
